Overview
FIRST STAR was launched in the Fall of 2002. She has been owned and maintained to the highest standards by her original owner since new. Complete documentation of her maintenance history is available for review and is self evident when viewing the vessel for the first time; showing as if she has just been launched last week. First Star is truly immaculate.
Built with a blue water cruising range of 2800 NM, she is powered by a single 425 HP Lugger (cruising speed 10 Knots, burning 10 gal/hr at 1750 RPMs) with a complete hydraulics package that includes bow and stern thrusters and Wesmar stabilizers. Fuel efficiency increases significantly when speed is reduced to 8 to 9 knots. Her layout features the highly popular raised pilothouse forward behind a Portuguese bridge. Aft is the main salon, open to the gourmet galley and pilothouse which gives owners and guests a spacious feel and great entertaining areas. The exterior features a good sized cockpit and swim platform, full walkaround side decks for passage fore and aft without entering the interior. Her moderate draft of 5' 10" and full keel with fully protected prop, make her an ideal Bahamas cruiser as well.
The owner and guest accommodations are currently configured with a full beam master with his and her heads, a VIP forward with semi private head and shower access, and a small office to starboard that could be converted into a small bunkroom or Captains cabin.
The engine room can be accessed through a watertight door from the starboard head of the master stateroom or through a hatch on the aft deck. The engine room is extremely large permitting easy access to the machinery and facilitating top notch maintenance.
A word about the builder, Kanter Yachts of Ontario, Canada:
First Star was designed by world-renowned naval architect Chuck Paine. She features the same substantial construction and rugged materials that allow Coast Guard craft to weather some of the most violent conditions in nature. The high-strength welded aluminum hull is widely accepted as providing the ultimate in leak-proof strength, an assurance of quality when miles of sea lie between you and safe harbour. A low-drag hull enables trips of up to 2,800 miles between fuelling, putting Europe within easy reach of North America via Bermuda-Azores. Built for cruising safety and fitted for comfort and style, the Kanter 62 represents the pinnacle of motor-yachting heritage.
The craft’s responsive performance is ensured by a round-bilged forward bottom that transitions to a chine aft with a single spray rail and a fairly high prismatic co-efficient of 0.67. A full-length keel dampens roll and shields against grounding to protect the rudder and propeller. Welded-aluminum construction provides great strength at only moderate displacement, an asset that contributes to the Kanter 62’s impressive range and top speed.
